2012 WV GAMES BEAST OF THE BEACH WRESTLING TOURNAMENT

TOURNAMENT INFORMATION

Date:

Saturday September 1st, 2012

Location of Tournament: Magic Island Park

101 Kanawha Blvd W, Charleston, WV 25301

Age (last school year) & Weight Categories

(Honor system prevails – no proof will be required – and no weigh-ins) – Elementary – Middle School – High School – Open (Tournament Director will group the wrestlers in up to the following weight divisions in each age category)

Elementary: Lightweight, Middle Weight, Light Heavy Weight, Heavy Weight

Middle School: Lightweight, Light middleweight, Middleweight, Heavyweight

High School : Lightweight, Light Middleweight, Middleweight, Heavyweight

Open – Lightweight, Middle Weight, Heavyweight

Qualification & Dress – Open to male or female participants…wrestling experience helpful but not necessary – Men – Swim trunks (not very loose fitting), Women – One piece swimsuits

Tournament System & Awards – Double elimination tournament – Random draw into tournament brackets (cross-bracketing will occur in consolations) – Medals for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place in each (age/weight) division

Tentative Schedule:

Saturday, September 1st, 2012

Tournament set up 8:00am – 9:00am

Registration 9:00am – 11:00am

Grouping of Wt. Divisions 11:00am – 11:15am (all participants need to be there)

Rules Clinic 11:15am – 11:45am

Wrestling Begins 12:00 noon (until finished – usually before 7:00pm)

Host: George Washington High School Wrestling Team (Magic Island Park use and support – by the City of Charleston / The WV Games)

Rules:

- On sand, inside a 20’ diameter circle; standing position

- no ground wrestling,

- 1 period, maximum of 3 minutes, 2 points or Fall wins the match, 1 point for Throw, Takedown or Push-out, Can score Fall if opponent is thrown to both shoulders.

- Ties: Last person that scores wins – if no score, one 1 min. sudden death period (if tied after sudden death period – referee’s decision)

- No stoppages (except by referee or to get sand out of face)

- No timeouts, no injury time, no blood time…or wrestler will default match.

- Penalties: 1 warning (2nd offense – wrestler defaults the match)

- No kicking, punching, or slapping

- No butting heads, attacking the face, pulling hair, or throwing sand

- No holds that lead to dislocation, head-only holds or holds/moves with the purpose to injure.

- (Flagrant penalties will result in elimination from tournament)

- Cover the body with a slippery substance (results in defaulting the match)

- Swearing, not shaking hands with opponent, arguing with or pushing referee, or any action that is deemed unacceptable or irresponsible

– in match, tournament area or Magic Island Park…results in elimination from tournament.
